Patience and Letting Go: Practice Makes Peaceful

I woke up this past Friday morning, with a feeling that still hasn’t passed. My intuition was pulling me to write about what I was feeling the very moment I woke up Friday, but for some reason I did not. Something tells me, the reason I am still feeling these feelings, is because I have yet to write about them.

(Just as a side note to this blog post, I want to thank you all for sharing this blog with me. It heals me in many ways, and I hope by me sharing my experience, strength, and hope with you here, that you find your own healing as well.)

Lately I have been overwhelmed with feelings of impatience. It unconsciously eats at me until I become aware of the frustration I am dealing with in each moment. As a result, I have been contemplating two art forms: The Art of Letting Go, and The Art of Practicing Patience.  I am learning two things from my current life experiences.

Number 1: If we want to participate in the act of loving deeply, we must be prepared to master the art of letting go.

AND

Number 2: Life IS patience.

You see, as I feel into my feelings of impatience, it is revealed to me that I am suffering from my own resistance to letting people, places, and things go, and therefore not accepting my life exactly the way it is right now. It is a result of my inability to trust my own process to unfold in a way that feels joyful, secure, and fulfilling to me.

When I become anxious and antsy with intense feelings about wishing things were different, or frustrated that things aren’t happening faster than they are, I lose power and begin to spin out of control.

However, I am reminding myself that I MUST be willing to master the art of letting go if I want to participate in loving deeply in this life, and also, that life IS patience. This helps me shift my perception.

If I really LOVE something or someone truly and deeply, then letting him, or it go, does not mean I will lose anything. It only means I am willing to make room for things to unfold naturally and organically, trusting that there is a Divine order happening in my life. It is a win-win, because letting go of someone or something that is not truly best for you, only means that once you let it go, you will create the space for something or someone better to come into your experience, which CANNOT happen until you let go of what you think you want.

Patience is something that is REQUIRED if we want to experience peace. Life does not happen on MY terms…it happens on Life’s terms, and therefore I must adapt to life, rather than trying to make life adapt to me. Therefore, living life IS a constant practice of patience.

Today, I was getting super annoyed and irritable. I just wanted to cry and scream and blame the heavens for not giving me everything I think I should have by now (yes, i can be  drama queen :)). But… after I spewed out this yucky energy for a while, and realized how unpleasant it feels to me and anyone who is unfortunate enough to cross my path, I decided it was a self-defeating behavior, and one that I do not wish to repeat from this day forward.

The truth is, I have so much great stuff happening all the time. It may not always look the way I want it to, or think it should, but in the end, I am always pleased with the way things turn out.

I am actually appearing on TV tonight at 9pm EST, 6pm PST, on Discovery Channel’s HD Theatre. I was hired to train the one and only Ryan Freidlinghaus from West Coast Customs on an episode of “Inside West Coast Customs,” his new show. As a result of this job, I ended up training he and his wife for about 6 months even after we wrapped the show.

So you see, as much as I like to believe differently on days like today, things are good for me, and they may be moving slower than I want them too, but they are moving in a good direction, and at the end of the day…that’s the most important thing of all.

So, the moral of the story is, in the name of LOVE, learn to let go of everything you think you want…

at least just for today.

Remind yourself that letting go is the only way you can ever hold on to anything, because real love cannot be held on to. It must be admired, nurtured, and given space to become what it was always meant to become.

Also, patience isn’t just something we need as children when waiting for our parents to give us the toy or dessert we want. It is an art form, that is the very key to the doorway of inner peace.

Love IS letting go, and Life IS patience. Without these two things, we will find it difficult to feel the serenity in our hearts that we are seeking.

So, when you notice that you are giving yourself a hard time, or obsessing over something you cannot control, I hope you STOP. Breathe. Remind yourself, that just for today you can let it all go. Just for this moment, you can allow life to be exactly as it is.

Here’s to your beautiful journey, your health, wellness, and vitality.

Please leave me your questions and comments here, as it is always a gift to hear from you.

Erin

Feeding Your Whole Being: Reach Optimal Health and Well-Being With Primary and Secondary Food February 22, 2011

Hey guys. I wanted to share this video I did with you on the difference between Primary and Secondary Foods. It is important to know the difference, because in order to truly reach optimal health and well-being, it requires feeding the Whole Life. This is what I am always referring to as “Life Fitness.”

I will let the video speak for itself. Please leave me any questions or comments you have. I am happy to answer them 🙂 Have an awesome day…I’m off to pick up my Aussie Cuz from LAX. I did yoga, ate a good breakfast, now some fun and family. Now that’s what I call Primary food!

Life Fitness: Creating Habits That Manifest Lifelong Happy, Healthy, Beautiful People February 20, 2011

I am asked all the time, by strangers, friends, family, and new clients, how to reach a specific goal.

Every one has their own unique goals, but typically they involve getting “optimal abs,” “losing weight as fast a possible,” or transforming their body in some way.

I use to be the kind of trainer who would give you answers that were exactly what you wanted to hear, because I was too afraid to tell you the truth. However, I have become the type of trainer and Health Coach that is going to give it to you straight up. I am more concerned with helping your body heal, and helping you achieve results that last forever, than I am with setting you up for failure just to accommodate your short-term obsessions.

I am totally supportive and a big fan of having goals. However, I have just learned that when we are motivated by the wrong reasons, our motivation for doing things never lasts but more than a few months. Do you relate? You know it’s either been you, or someone you know, who eats really super healthy and hits the gym like a champ for about 3 months or so, and then poof. All those good habits disappear and you or they, begin to swing in the opposite direction for the rest of the year.

This happens for 3 reasons:

1) You are motivated by external results and reasons, and therefore you become bored and unfulfilled by your “Why” behind getting fit and making life changes.

2) You go way to extreme, looking for fast results, and therefore get burnt out and sick of starving.

3) You set yourself up for failure by creating a schedule and regimen that is not realistic to maintain on a daily basis as your new healthy “Lifestyle.”

Notice what I said in #3…LIFESTYLE.  Yes, this is because in order to transform your body, your mind, your spirit, and your life, it takes some time.

It takes commitment, and it takes passion, and it takes willingness to stay the course and do whatever it takes to unlearn old patterns and bad habits, and to replace them with habits and behaviors that serve optimal health and well-being in your life.

Afterall, when you have optimal health and well-being, you will naturally manifest the physical results of this inner state. You will naturally begin to just look healthy and fit all the time, due to the way you live your life.

Therefore, it takes a shift in your consciousness around exercise, and nutrition, if you want to achieve results that last a lifetime. I know for me, I had to get off that roller coaster of dieting, bingeing, exercising way too much, then not enough, feeling great, then feeling gross. It was exhausting!

You must come from a healthy mindset around food and exercise, in order to transform your body in a way the lasts forever.

Here are 3 tips for you to begin to create a healthy relationship to food and exercise, and therefore begin to manifest results that last forever:

1) Find your WHY behind getting fit. This must be for you. If you are motivated by something temporary, then when that outside motivation is gone, you are back to square one. Why do you want to get fit? Do you want to feel sexy from the inside out? Do you want to light up a room every time you walk into one because you feel so full of love, energy, and vitality inside? Do you want to be able to look the world in the eyes, and know that you are worthy of greatness, because you act lovingly toward yourself and live a life you are proud of? Find your WHY, and make sure you feel so much passion and are so connected to it, that it moves you into action. Trust, that when you live to accommodate your WHY, your hotness factor will naturally go up.

2) Choose thoughts, actions, foods, and relationships that support your WHY. Take an inventory of your life. Make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who only want the best for you, who support you and lift you up, rather than pull you down and suck your energy. Guard your thoughts like your life depends on it, because it does. Be aware of heavy, negative thoughts that make you feel bad and tired, that do not serve you, and when you notice them, shift immediately to thoughts that make you happy. Example, if you are worried about something, or someone upset you, begin to imagine yourself hanging out with your favorite person, or doing your most favorite thing in the world and feel that fun, the love, and the comfort you feel when you are around that person or doing that thing. Lastly, stay conscious of the foods you put into your mouth and the actions you take. Ask yourself before you eat or do them, “Does this serve my WHY?” It is up to you to decide what it is you want more than anything, and then align everything in your life, to help you get there.

3) Practice progress, NOT perfection. Be patient with your process. Let the pressure off yourself, and allow yourself the time and space you need to unlearn all the unhealthy ways in which you’ve been living your life. We all have to unlearn the ways in which we have been programmed. Take it one day at a time, and just do the best you can. As long as you stay committed to living a life with optimal health and well-being, the rest will unfold, as you transform one day at a time:)

Heart Fitness: When Our Heart Breaks We Can Choose To Break Down, Or Break Open February 18, 2011

I have been thinking a lot lately about the topic of  LOVE. Maybe because this week began with Valentine’s Day, or maybe just because it is something I have been contemplating my entire life.

I think it’s stating the obvious when I say, LOVE is something we all contemplate in one way or another. I have been really learning a lot about it however, in a BIG way, on many different levels. I recently shared my feelings with someone who has been a special part of my life. Telling him that I had deep love for him was totally scary, yet it has opened a whole new world for me. Through the experiences I had with this person, and the interactions, feelings I had to process, and all that I got see within me as a result, I have been blessed with the ability to be vulnerable, and to truly have genuine love, compassion, and respect for myself.

To be able to love deeply, takes fitness of the heart, mind, and spirit.

When our heart gets broken, we have 2 choices. We can break down, or break open. It’s kind of like when you were a kid. Remember playing in the shore at the beach and getting slammed down into the sand by each breaking wave. I was one of those kids who may have gotten slammed down and maybe cried the first time or two, but eventually I learned that if I hung on too long to the pain, I would miss the entire experience and opportunity to gain the courage, strength, and excitement I needed to do it all over again. You see, there was always another wave coming right after the one that knocked me down, and therefore, always another chance to ride gracefully to the shore on it. So I learned to quickly jump up with a big smile and playfully dive right into the next wave.

That’s how I am choosing to see love these days. Each wave is new. No wave is ever the same as the one before it, and with every slam we get into the sand, we get better at not breaking down from the fall, the fear, and the shock, but instead we learn to jump up playfully, and dive right into the next one.

What do you choose to do when your heart breaks? Do you break down, closing off to the next wave, or do you break open, and playfully try again and again until you find the perfect wave for you?

I am grateful that I love as deeply as I do. This is a gift, not a curse, although I would have argued this in the past. Now I can see, that life IS relationships, and being in a loving relationship with a partner is the best stress relief, and one of the most powerful medicines that exist on the planet.

So, until I am in this kind of connected, loving relationship, with another soul I can grow and heal with, I will keep jumping up and diving into each wave, again and again, playfully enjoying the ride. To me, love is worth it.

Please share your experiences with me here, and if you like this article, please SHARE it below with your FB and Twitter friends:) Here’s to the fitness of your heart, mind, and soul.

Love,

Erin
